Fashion Influences: Black & White Decor

Black & White Decor Trends | Storypiece.net

It’s Friday!  And I’m back with my second post in this new series on how fashion trends influence home decor.  If you missed the first one and the concept behind the idea, you can catch-up here.

This week I’m highlighting decorating with Black and White.  It’s an elegant and classic look that is making a major resurgence.

Black & White Combo | Storypiece.net

Interestingly enough, as I sat down to write this post, I realized that we don’t have a black and white palette in our home. Anywhere.

None.

Ziltch.

Zippo.

Nada.

I guess that’s not so interesting as we won’t have every one of these trends in our home. However, for a girl like myself who lives for white molding next to dark color, I was caught off guard.  But that’s the problem… we always pair white with a color.  Bold color, soft color, even neutral/tan color… just not black.

So if you’re like me and seeking to remedy this situation, here are some great projects to bring the black and white trend into your home.

**Please note: if you would like to add any of these photos to Pinterest, please do so only after clicking on the contributors photo or blog link that I’ve included.  I can’t express the importance of giving proper pin credit where it is due.**

Black And White Obsession

Custom Director Chair | Storypiece.net

I seriously could not write this post without including an offering from my friend Trisha who writes for none other than Black and White Obsession.  To say Trisha is a fan of this color combination is putting it mildly and her custom director chairs are crazy fun!  She used her Silhouette and freezer paper to create her own templates to update these Goodwill chairs.

2 Little Superheroes

Danielle at 2 Little Superheroes also worked with freezer paper to make this graphic pillow.  Apparently this technique for stenciling on fabric is super easy and I can’t wait to try it.  Danielle has a great step-by-step tutorial if you are wanting to tackle this project too.

Two Zero One

Accent Pillows By Two Zero One

Back again this week is Stephanie from Two Zero One with her round-up of Bright or Bold Pillows.  Not only is she on trend with the black and white decor, but like Danielle, Stephanie paired this combo with emerald green… Pantone’s color of the year for 2013. There is something truly great about adding a third bright color to this black and white trend that just takes the whole thing to a new level.

Family Style Living

Final Chair Nook

I’ve talked about Pam & Lindsey from Family Style Living before; they are a creative mother daughter duo that write one blog to help bridge the gap of them living in different states. Lindsey is getting ready to become a first time mom and her nursery is almost finished for her wee little one to arrive.  The ladies did a ton of work to get the space ready, but one of my favorite pieces is the IKEA lamp hack that they did.  Black and white polka dot fabric is a sweet addition.

My favorite thing about all of these looks are that they are so whimsical.  Black and white can have a real formal or modern feel and these projects have more of a playful spirit.  They make it easy to embrace this trend and blend it into any decor… including ours.

Have you ever been surprised to discover something missing from your decorating style?  What do you think of this black and white combo?  Do you have a favorite color pairing to go with this dynamic trend?

First, thanks for the feature! Second I am ALL over this post! Those sequinned pillows, that b&w ikea lamp, of course that pluss’d pillow all things I wish I had in my house right now!

Freezer paper is seriously the best thing out there!! #1 TIP: scoop up “fabric medium” you can mix your own acrylic colors! It’s super easy and you can convert any acrylic color to fabric paint, instead of buying the expensive stuff separately!

Absolutely! Thank YOU for agreeing to be a part of this post. How great are all of these projects?! Seriously, somedays I think I need a second home for all the fun things I want to do.

And thanks for the tip! I love trying new things. but sometimes it can get spendy with all the extras you need to buy to try something out. I’ll let you know how it goes when I try it.

Thak you for featuring Lindsey’s nursery. We were so surprised. Well our little guy is now here and boy are we happy. He is such a love. As soon as she is up to it we will be back to our blog and tell the story.
