Closet Storage

Top Shelf Storage Ideas | Storypiece.net

Happy Monday!  I’m back with another weekly organization tip.  I’m happy to report that our kitchen drawer organizer is working amazingly well and I love catching the smile on Tyson’s face when he opens the drawer and sees a place for everything and everything in it’s place.

This week, I want to take a look at some closet storage solutions.  We recently inherited this gorgeous antique dresser.

The story behind it I’ll be sharing with you in the next few weeks.  It’s beautiful in our master bedroom.  However, its addition has caused us to change up our clothing storage in our room and the desire to streamline part of our closet has arisen… particularly with our ski clothing.  They’re folded up on the shelf, but they just look… frumpy.

We decided to try out these storage bags as a solution for organizing our ski bibs.  Instead of a heap of winter gear, they will be out of sight, but readily accessible.

Closet Storage Bags | Storypiece.netIn last weeks post, I mentioned the importance of measuring for the area you will be organizing and these containers are the prime reason why.

Tyson and I picked these out online.  However, when Tyson purchased them, he grabbed ones that ended up being too big for the shelf.  Although they would’ve held everything nicely, they also would’ve hung over the shelf by about 4 inches and made the whole area look sloppy.  If you’re going to invest in new storage solutions, sloppy is not the end result you are looking for.

So back to the store we went for ones with better shelf depth.

Also, we purchased two boxes for the ski clothing as we weren’t entirely sure how much the insulated clothing would compress down.  Our reasoning was that if we purchased two and only needed one, we could reuse the second one for other seasonal clothing.

The result is a much more polished look in our closet.

Also because I’m notorious in our home for organizing with closed containers, but not labeling what’s inside, I created custom labels that you can download by clicking here: Closet Storage Labels

I included additional categories that might come in handy, but these are completely customizable for your needs.

Needless to say, I was delighted when Tyson asked if the closet organizers came with pre-printed labels.

How do you store your winter clothing?  What are some of your favorite top closet shelf storage solutions?  When was the last time you had to head back to the store because you purchased the wrong size item?

I can’t even tell you how old and amazing the dresser is! It’s in great shape and just needed a little light cleaning when we received it. I can definitely see why you love this style of furniture… they seriously don’t make them like this any more. Sturdy, high quality with incredible detail; I can’t believe we own it!
