Happy New Year! I hope that you had a fabulous holiday season and are ready to embrace all that 2015 has to offer. I definitely am. 2014 was a year of starts and stops for me as I discovered my new norm within our changing family dynamics. As a stay at home mom having her first child head out on his own, I was suddenly examining what I wanted to do within this new season of life. And frankly 2014 brought a lot of stumbling over things that I quickly learned I DON’T want to do. I’m excited to finally feel like I’ve got direction and a plan for 2015… one that I can’t wait to share with you over the next few weeks.
But first, let’s talk color.
One of the things I eagerly await each year (even more than Santa) is Pantone to announce their Color of the Year. 2014 was crowned Radiant Orchid to great applause.
And 2015 has been dubbed the year of Marsala… to loud boo’s and outcries of “are you kidding me”?!
So let me just go on record as saying, I love Marsala and I think 2015 is going to be a fabulous year!
It’s actually no big surprise that I’m a fan of Marsala… it’s fun to say and it’s a red! Even a rusty red is amazing in my book. It’s gorgeous in fashion and I naturally seek out this color in make-up, because of it’s strong neutral base. Marsala translates well into home décor and here are some of my favorite picks:
Many of the negative comments came from those that were having flashbacks to the mauve of the 80’s. But this ain’t your mama’s dusty rose. It’s bold and rich without being loud. And the great thing about Marsala is it truly pairs nicely with past Pantone Colors of the Year.
Marsala with Tangerine Tango (2012) and Emerald (2013) – These colors are so fresh together and make me look forward to the warmer spring and summer months ahead.
Marsala with Radiant Orchid (2014) and hints of Tangerine Tango (2013) – I love this combo with gray which is so on trend right now.
And that is precisely why I look forward to the Pantone announcement with such anticipation. It aptly predicts what color trends are coming in fashion and home design.
For 2015, I think Pantone nailed it.
How do you feel about the Pantone Color of the year? Is Marsala a hit or miss for you? Do you have plans on incorporating this color into your wardrobe or home décor?
