As many of you know, this is not a food blog. I’m pretty much a complete train wreck in the kitchen and it’s just a good idea for all involved if I keep my culinary crafts to a minimum. However, the holiday season is always a fun time to give treats to neighbors and co-workers so I’ve been known to throw on my apron for some baked goods.
This years offering is for adults only: Bourbon Soaked Cherries.
I found this recipe a while back in Martha Stewart Living and I knew I had to give it a try for Christmas. It’s hands down the easiest recipe I’ve ever tried from Martha which is saying a lot when the instructions include the phrase “Watch carefully, since bourbon may ignite.”
It’s always fun to have a recipe with an element of danger involved.
But seriously… it’s so SUPER easy.
Combine one cup of bourbon with 2 tablespoons of sugar and simmer on low until the sugar dissolves. Keep an eye on that bourbon.
Pour over 3/4 cup of dried cherries and let it sit over night.
If the bourbon doesn’t ignite, you will have the most amazing treat. Martha suggests adding them to a Manhattan or to spoon over ice cream. We are planning on trying ours out with brownies… a boozy black forest dessert.
This recipe is definitely for adults only. However, if you are looking for something for the whole family, here are several from my favorite bloggers:
Do any of your homemade gifts come from the kitchen? What’s on your holiday baking list? Are you trying out any new recipes this season? Let me know what your planning and if there’s something fun I should try.
Well… I’m off to the store for more dried cherries!
